Bamboo Training and Empowerment Camp
Door-to-door campaigning – 9 residential trainees went for door-to-door campaigning in 20 villages for contacting new studnets for Bamboo Training Camp. Sharing the skills learnt and motivating others in the village to learn bamboo craftsmanship is a part of the holistic development of the trainees.
Trainees: 58 new students from 20 villages attended the 7 – day residential training camp at Meghnagar ashram. The students were divided into 3 teams for the training:
Team Mahi – The team was led by Jivan Gamod, residential trainee from 3 years. The students made Bamboom Amplifier performing the following steps under guidance:
- Cutting of bamboo of appropriate size
- Shaving of outer skin of bamboo using shave horse and draw knife
- Measuring and marking on bamboo for drilling
- Slot cleaning using chisel and half round file.
Team Anas – The team was led by Deepak Vakhla, a student of class 9 and resident trainee at Meghnagar Ashram. The team did the following steps:
- Cutting strips of bamboom with knife
- Sticking the strips together and marking for pen stand base
- Finishing of pen stand using 5 types of sand paper
Team Narmada – The team was led by Kamlesh Vakhla, a student of class 9 and resident trainee at Meghnagar Ashram. The team did the following steps:
- Making hairpin from the bamboo strips
- Sharpening tools using diamond-plate and silica stone
The selected students will be contacted over the next few months and called for the next training camps.
